1962 TOYOTA PUBLICA Sport

A concept model of a light weight sports car based on Toyota's volume seller, Publica (stemmed from "Public Car"). The major feature was the canopy style sliding roof, through which driver/passenger accessed into the cabin. The engine was similar with that on the saloon ; air-cooled horizontal 2cylinders with capacity 697cc, but was tuned to 38ps/5500rpm. The overall size was 3558 x 1437 x 1171mm, with the wheelbase 2000mm. The design as exhibited 1962 Tokyo Motor Show did not come to production, but Toyota later released a more practical proposition under the name of Toyota Sports 800.
